Patrick Notario: A game changer in the music industry
Who is Patrick Notario, you ask? At 31, he's an Italian music producer and session guitarist who has come a long way since his teenage dreams of becoming a guitarist.
In fact, at the age of 22, he had fully set aside any musical aspirations and began working in a job that wasn't quite his cup of tea. When he asked himself "Who am I? What do I love to do? What is my purpose?" at 27, it was the beginning of something extraordinary - Patrick gained clarity and began developing his production skills and playing gigs. With consistency and dedication to progress, Patrick is now doing what he loves full-time!
How was your culture/heritage influenced your creative work?
"This is a question ever-present in my mind everytime I create. Growing up among a unique mixture of friends, family and experiences has exposed me to a range of music throughout my life.
This has led me to crafting something new that reflects my personal style, whilst blending those memories I’ve formed from different cultures and eras that stands true to who I am as an artist. Undoubtedly when I produce it’s these core elements which shape the sound, although whether this happens consciously or subconsciously remains somewhat ambiguous to me."
Do you ever doubt yourself as an artist?
"As an artist and music producer, it's not uncommon to feel a little unsure of yourself. In fact, it's part of the creative process - facing your doubts and fears to craft something that is truly spectacular. Don’t doubt yourself!
Don't let fear get in the way of creating something amazing. Remember, great things have come from people doubting themselves, pushing their boundaries and taking risks. Don’t be afraid to take chances and make mistakes along the way. Sometimes the greatest victories can come from our own brave decisions. Don't be held back by self-doubt - you got this!"
What is your favourite type of artist to collaborate with?
"Well, the answer isn't simple. I prefer to work with artists who are willing to challenge me and push me to come up with even more exciting and unique ideas.
When working with them, I strive to find a balance between their perspectives on music and my vision for the project, as it often results in something far beyond what either of us could have thought of separately. This synergy between creators leads to truly breath-taking artwork and musical magic. Who knows where my creative journey will take me next?"
Which artist/producer would you love to have dinner with?
"If I had to pick one musician to have dinner with who would encompass the likes of John Mayer, Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams, Mark Ronson and Rick Rubin all in one, it would be quite a feat to accomplish. What an interesting evening it would be to share stories of the music industry with these five brilliant minds!
With a combined discography of timeless songs and genres, I can only imagine what new knowledge and experiences they could bring to the table. What guitarist, producer or songwriter hasn't been inspired by some combination of their work? What musician wouldn't you love to have dinner with?"
What is the role of sustainability in music?
"The answer is still up for debate. Many musicians are pushing for greener options in the studio, utilizing solar panels and other renewable energy sources.
But at its core, the nature of making music means using materials and consuming energy--so there's always room for improvement in terms of reducing our carbon footprint.
As much as we'd like to always go green, creating tunes requires some nonrenewable resources that could leave an eco-footprint in their wake--so the debate over sustainability rages on!"
